Pageant Beach Hotel Resort has Moved a Step Closer

Pageant Beach Hotel resort has moved a step closer after the developer finalized a US$25-million deal on Dec 7th.

The Howard Hospitality Group, which opened the Margaritaville resort earlier this year, has partnered with New Jersey-based Madison Hill Properties for the project.

Planning permission was granted in October and hopes to open a new luxury 5-star resort at the site in late 2020.

The resort will include 30,000 square feet of conference space, five pools, seven bars and restaurants, a private screening room, spa and gym, and approximately 400 guest rooms and suites.

The resort will eventually employ a permanent staff of around 500 people. (more…)

FIN Development Brakes Ground

Michael Ryan and Dale Crighton have broken ground on their new oceanfront condo development in George Town.

The development, Fin, aims to bring five-star resort-style elegance and amenities to the residential market.

Construction work began last week, following a two-year design and planning process, on what will be a four-story, 36-unit development on South Church Street.

Construction is expected to take two years to complete, with the first owners moving in around the summer of 2019. Around 60 percent of the units have already been pre-sold.

A salt-water lagoon will be carved into the iron-shore and a new beach created overlooking the marine park. (more…)

TEN Arquitectos’ Design Wins Competition

TEN Arquitectos

TEN Arquitectos of Mexico City and New York have been announced winners of Beach Bay Land Ltd’s design competition for the St. James Point, Beach Bay Resort.

The US$250 million luxury resort in Bodden Town was unveiled Saturday 5th December at an event in at the Art Basel Gallery in Miami Beach. The project is set on a lush 16-acre property fronted by a 1,000 foot secluded and private natural beach, and features a 200-room hotel and 90 residential units, spa, shops, restaurants and water sports.

John Layton, managing director of the development company, said he was impressed with the firms “bold ideas” as well as being impressed with their past projects.

The lead architect for TEN Arquitectos, Enrique Norten, said “We have a unique concept here that will fit harmoniously within the landscape” and creating buildings that sync with the natural environment was key to the project.

TEN Arquitectos competed in the design competition with two other firms, Garcia Stromberg and SB Architects. (more…)

Cayman Brac Twenty Percent Rise in Air Arrivals

Cayman Brac has seen a twenty percent rise in air arrivals from this time last year.

The increased numbers are the outcome of the upgrades Charles Kirkconnel International Airport underwent during the past year, which were only officially opened in February 2015.

The upgrades included the construction of a Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) Room, which is a necessity for international travel to the United States, an In-transit lounge, and an arrivals hall. The run way also has the capability to accommodate all of the aircraft that can land at the Owen Roberts International airport, on Grand Cayman, apart from the British Airways Boeing 767. (more…)
