Regular business people and tourists can now apply for a new multiple-entry visa that lasts for five years. The previous visa only lasted three years, by adding an extra two years officials are confident that the new visa would encourage successful applicants to travel to the Cayman Islands more often. New stand-alone emergency room to open in Summerfield Ocala

Ocala MRMC

Ocala Regional Medical Center and West Marion Community Hospital’s parent company, Ocala Health, has announced it will open a new $10 million stand-alone emergency room on a three-acre site in Summerfield.

The 10,500 square-foot facility is expected to be fully operational during the first quarter of 2016. It is estimated that it will serve more than 15,000 patients annually and employ 40 full-time healthcare workers.

The decision to open a stand-alone ER in Summerfield reflects the rising trend in these facilities, with the amount doubling in the past five years to more than 400 though out 45 states. They remain open throughout the night, typically have much shorter wait times, located in convenient location and offer the same level of care available as emergency rooms in hospitals. (more…)

Health City Cayman Island Receive International Accreditation

HCCI Reception Area

Just over a year after opening Health City Cayman Island has been awarded the gold seal of approval from Joint Commission International, and now is part of an elite club of top-class hospitals around the world.

Health City is only the second hospital in the Caribbean, after the Doctors hospital in the Bahamas, to receive the international accreditation from the international arm of the accrediting organization for hospitals in the United States.

The hospital already receives a number of U.S. patients but is still running far below capacity at around 22 percent. The accreditation will help boost the numbers higher and the head of medical services, Dr. Abraham “hopes to have the facility running at 75 percent to 80 percent capacity by the end of the year”.

The vision of the hospitals founder, Dr. Devi Shetty, has always been to bring affordable, quality healthcare to the Americas. The biggest hurdle in the way of this has been getting recognition from major U.S. insurance companies; this accreditation will make it easier for insurance companies to send to the Cayman Islands. Cayman Enterprise City Goes Maritime

Cayman Maritime Docks

The Cayman Government has approved a designated special economic zone (SEZ) for maritime service companies on Grand Cayman. Shipping companies and maritime service providers are now permitted to establish a physical presence in the newly created Cayman Maritime Service Park of Cayman Enterprise City.

Cayman Enterprise City is now into it’s 3rd year and comprises six parks with 154 zone companies. The new Maritime service Park will see ship owners, brokers and financiers, freight trading, operations, logistics, vessel management, consulting and research companies added to their numbers. It is anticipated that the Park will bring maritime services businesses to Cayman shores that will help to establish Cayman Islands as the largest maritime cluster in the region.

In April, the Cayman shipping registry was commended by the International Chamber of Shipping, in its annual Flag State Performance Table, as being 1 of 14 states leading the chart with exemplary performance indicators. Following this recognition the Office of the Premier announced the completion of the necessary steps by the Government to create the Maritime Service Park, during the 2015 Shipping Summit at the Marriott resort. Taste of Cayman

Herman East End Fish Fry

When people think of the Cayman Islands, most people think of no direct taxation, great weather, beautiful beaches, amazing diving and stunning Caribbean natural beauty. What people don’t necessarily think of is Cayman’s fantastic world-class food scene that has exploded over the last couple of years.

International and local chefs continue to open fantastic restaurants in Cayman bringing a fantastic mix of Caribbean and European influences to the Islands, and with many Cayman eateries adopting the farm-to-table movement its not only high quality seafood on offer.

The farm-to-table movement not only brings healthy, fresh and local produce to Cayman plates but also keeps money in local pockets. When dining in Cayman you can be eating the fish from its waters and the vegetables from its land. (more…)

New Camana Bay planning application submitted

A US$40 million planning application of Camana Bay has been submitted to widen and realign the Esterley Tibbetts Highway. The plans include a four-lane divided highway, an underpass and a pedestrian-friendly ramp over the realigned road.

Once the four-lane bypass is completed the existing road will transition to a low-speed internal road though Camana Bay.

The $40 million road is phase one of a US$400 million build-out plan of the area by the Cayman Islands Government and Dart Realty (Cayman Ltd.). Phase two will aim to add a pedestrian overpass over West Bay Road to Seven Mile Beach, and the final phase will be a newly constructed five star hotel and residence on Seven Mile Beach. (more…)

Telecommunications Companies Merge in Caymans

Cable and Wireless Communications announced earlier this month (April) the company has completed its US$1.85 billion acquisition of all of the equity of Columbus International Inc.

Eugene Nolan, Director of Product and Process for Cable and Wireless Communications Caribbean branch, LIME, said:

“We are now full steam ahead and the companies are now fully merged. It’s a really exciting merger. Cable and Wireless has been operating around the world in nearly 40 countries. We made the decision a couple of years ago to divest our holdings outside of the Latin American-Caribbean region and to focus our energy solely on this region, and as part of that this opportunity came along to merge with Columbia Communications,” (more…)
